Deceased was getting down a length of 11ft. of coal, which was supported by two sprags, on a longwall face in the Shallow Seam. He had drawn the far sprag, and was standing in front of the coal cutting out the home sprag with his pick, when the coal suddenly fell and killed him almost instantly. A slippery facing was exposed after the fall. If deceased had stood on the other side of the sprag, which he was cutting out, the coal would have fallen clear of him.
