- There being no coal cut by the coal cutting machine. He was sent into a longwall gateway to hew with another man. The overman and deputy had examined the gateway some twenty minutes prior to the man going in to hew. He was casting coal when a stone 17 feet long, 4.5, feet wide, and 22 inches thick, fell from a damp slippery parting and struck him on the head, fracturing his skull.
