He was found lying dead at the bottom of the wheel race of the flywheel of the pumping engine. The wheel was surrounded by a substantial wooden fence, which was broken down. There was nothing to show definitely how deceased was caught by the wheel, but it is conjectured that he reached through the fence to move the wheel when the engine was on the dead centre, and was caught when the engine started suddenly.
