- Details of Event
- Deceased and his son were clearing rubbish off some timbers that were getting low, so as to remove them and put in higher ones. None of the collars were said to have been broken when the fireman visited the place at noon, the deceased appears to have found that the inner pair of the low timbers had commenced to break. He set a prop under it in the presence of the assistant fireman, but because it was a little out of perpendicular, be knocked it out again, when the low piece of timbering gave way and 20 to 25 trams of cliff fell on him and killed him. The assistant fireman was partly buried, and had a very narrow escape. He was, however, quite uninjured.
