- Details of Event
- Deceased and another man were clearing up a small fall, when a side waver of coal came off at a breaker, and within a few minutes a large stone, 7 feet long, 4 feet wide and 1 foot 3 inches thick, tapering off at each end, which had been partly supported by the coal and by a running plank 3 feet away, fell from the roof, canting the timbers out. Deceased was, it is supposed, in the act of clearing away some debris from the previous fall to make room for the foot of a prop next to the coal, when the stone came away. He died four days later from shock caused by a fracture of the spine.
