He attempted to lever the blade of a ventilating fan, which was worked by a single engine, and which had stopped on the centre; When pulling back the plank he was using (after it started) it injured his stomach so severely that he expired April 5, 1909. A barring arrangement will be put on the main shaft of the engine to start it in future.
