- Details of Event
- Deceased was letting an empty tub down into the lower side of his working place by means of a crab winch. As there were only two 6 feet lengths of rails in the lower side, and the gradient was only 1 in 6, it is probable that he was letting the tub down with the crab in gear, and holding the pawl out with one hand whilst revolving the handle with the other. He had only lowered the tub 8 feet when it stopped. His mate went to see why, and found him severely wounded in the head, the crab in gear and the pawl down. He had evidently been struck by the crab handle and died four days later.
