- 13 September 1916: Fatal Pit Accident at Bathgate - A distressing accident occurred at Easton pit, Bathgate yesterday forenoon, whereby one man lost his life, and two others were injured. It appears that the men were following their employment as miners when a large quantity of material became detached from the roof and fell on them. Thomas Morris, the man killed was 44 years of age, married, and resided in South Bridge Street. One of the injured men, Matthew Charles (33), resides at North Street. He was removed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. The third men, whose injuries were not so severe, was removed to his home. [Scotsman 14 September 1916]
