11 April 1926: Miner Killed Near Airdrie - A miner named John Chapman (24), a married man residing at Arthur's Land, Plains, near Airdrie was accidentally killed in Ardenrigg Coal Company's No. 5 pit at Plains on Sunday. He was found unconscious on one of the roads, having apparently been knocked down and injured internally by a runaway hutch. [Scotsman 13 April 1926]
