- Details of Event
- Died 29th June. Deceased was engaged shooting up a bottom canch, consisting of 6 inches of sagre underlaid by 6 inches of coal and building the stones by the side of the road. After a shot had been fired he stated he was building the stones when one broke in his hands causing a wrench, and he felt so unwell that he left for home before the end of the shift. He worked no more and was under medical attendance up to his death. An inquest was held after a post-mortem examination. Medical evidence showed that death was due to acute pleuro-pneumonia and while two doctors stated they did not think it was caused or accelerated by any accident or injury a third doctor considered it would have, the effect of hastening death. The jury found that death was due to pneumonia accelerated by injury he received in the mine causing an overstrain.
