His leg was run over by a waggon which he was about to unload at the boilers. There was nothing to account for his falling which be evidently did. No one saw the accident the only suggestion was that he was moving the truck with a piece of timber as a lever under the wheel and that it slipped causing him to fall across the rail with his leg close in front of the wheel which although only just moving may have caught his trousers and prevented his getting clear. He died in the Newport Infirmary on the 1st January, 1902 the leg having been amputated.
