On the road on which he was driving it was necessary to use a double locker in the last wheels of two tubs, but on this occasion the pony kept moving and he could not get them in. He then attempted to stop the tubs by getting in front of them in order to prevent them running into and injuring some men employed on the top of a self-acting incline a short distance away. In doing so he was crushed against the fencing of the incline wheel and killed instantly.
