- 30 July 1924: New Cumnock Miner Killed – While Robert Carruthers, 22, son of Wm. Carruthers, residing at Connel Park, New Cumnock, was at work at the coal face in Knockshinnoch Mine, belonging to the New Cumnock Collieries Ltd, he was caught by a rush of coal and buried.
