28 February 1931: Colliery Fatality - A colliery brusher, Patrick Carroll (45), 131 Tollcross Road, Parkhead, died in Glasgow Royal Infirmary on Saturday from injuries sustained in Broomhouse Colliery, Mount Vernon. He had been struck down by a runaway hutch in the Blackband section and sustained serious internal injuries, death being due to peritonitis. [Scotsman 2 March 1931]
