- 5 February 1924: Fatally Injured in Shale Mine - William Carr (16), chain runner, Blackburn, Bathgate, was yesterday fatally injured in Westwood State Mine. He was crushed by a runaway hutch and died immediately following the accident. [Scotsman 6 February 1924]
