Thomas Trafford Wynne died at Tutbury, Staffordshire, on November 20th, 1931, at the age of 73.
He was the son of the late Thomas Wynne, H.M. Inspector of Mines, and was educated privately and at the Royal School of Mines. On completion of one term at the R.S.M., he was articled as a pupil at the Shelton Colliery, North Staffordshire. He subsequently was appointed manager of a colliery at Malins Lee, Shropshire, and later of the Old Hayes Wood Colliery, North Staffordshire.
He was for five years consulting engineer and part owner of the Coniston Copper Mines, North Lancashire. Subsequently, he turned his attention to the mining of precious metals and stones, and to reporting on properties in various parts of the world, and in this connexion he worked in Turkey, Asia Minor, Burma (where he held the position of manager of the Burma Ruby Mines), New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil. In 1904 he returned to England and joined the firm of J.C. Staten & Co., of Tutbury, where he took over the management of the gypsum mines belonging to the company.
Mr. Wynne was an original Member of the Institution, being elected in 1892.
