James Thomas Warne died in West Africa in October, 1918, aged 42 years.
From 1888 to 1899 he was engaged in practical mining in Devon and Cornwall, particularly on the Wheal, Friendship and Hexworthy tin mines. In 1899 he went out to the West Coast of Africa to join the staff of the Ashanti Gold Fields Corporation, Ltd., and was appointed mine foreman in 1901. In about 1909 he was placed in charge as underground foreman of a group of mines in the south-west section of the company’s property and he remained in the service of the Corporation until the date of his death.
Mr. Warne was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1912.
