James Macpherson Wickham died on January 26th, 1914, aged 40 years.
From 1897 to 1900 he was engaged in prospecting and opening up mines of the Hampton Plains Estate, Ltd. In 1902 he took an eleven months’ course of study in electricity with the General Electric Co., Ltd., Wilton, Birmingham, and following that he was, in 1905, engaged as mill-man on the Red Hill, Westralia, gold mines. During 1906 he was employed as battery manager on the Sons of Erin gold mine, and between that date and 1908 he was engaged on the Great Boulder Perseverance gold mines in various departments of the metallurgical plant.
He left that employ at the end of 1908 to take up similar duties on the Great Boulder No.1, which he held until 1910, when he became manager of the ‘Corinthian’ options of the Bullfinch Proprietary (W.A.), Ltd., and for six months was manager of the Moss reduction works, treating the Bullfinch ore. During the years 1911 and 1912 he was respectively assistant on the Teria tin mine, Northern Nigeria, and sampler on a mine in British Columbia, and in 1918 he again went to Northern Nigeria to take up an appointment as assistant on the Ropp Tin, Ltd., whence he was invalided home. He failed, however, to regain his health, and died as above stated.
Mr. Wickham was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1913.
