Ernest Seymour Wood died at Gosforth, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, in March, 1927.
His connexion with mining was almost exclusively restricted to coal. From 1890 to 1896 he was manager off the South Hetton Coal Co., in the County of Durham, and from 1896 to 1900, he held the position of chief mining engineer of the Bengal Coal Co., Calcutta, India. Returning to England, he was appointed manager of the Dawdon Colliery, Seaham Harbour, Durham, and was associated with that company for a number of years. He was also interested in other mines and limestone quarries.
He was a member of the Council of the Institution of Mining Engineers, a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, and a Fellow of the Geological Society.
Mr. Wood was elected a Member of the Institution in 1900.
