Daniel Black Waters died at Otago, N.Z., on April 1st, 1926, following an operation.
He was born in New Zealand and the whole of his professional career was spent there and in Australia. In 1892 he obtained the Associateship of the Otago University School of Mines and on completion of the course he was for a year assistant to the lecturer on metallurgy and assaying. In 1893 he went for a year to the Mt. Bischoff Tin Mining Co., Tasmania, and then was for three years in Victoria on two mines.
Returning to Zealand, he was manager for two years of the Shotover Quartz Mining Company, Otago. In April, 1900, he was appointed lecturer on metallurgy and assayer at Otago University School of Mines, and in 909 he was appointed Professor in the same subjects, which position he held until his death.
During 1915-17 he served in Frances with the N.Z. Expeditionary Forces as Captain in the N.Z. Eng. Tunnelling Coy.
Professor Waters was elected a Member of the Institution in 1921.
