Anthony Wilson died on 10th November, 1953, at his home in Keswick at the age of 82.
He had spent the whole of his life in the North of England, on the production of lead, zinc and wolfram. He managed the Thornthwaite mine from 1895, becoming managing director of Thornthwaite Mines, Ltd., in 1901. On the formation of the Carrock Syndicate, Ltd., for the production of wolfram in Cumberland, Mr. Wilson was appointed chairman and managing director in 1913, and in 1917 became manager of the Threlkeld mine. Two years later he accepted the position of technical director of Weardale Lead Co., Ltd., Durham, retaining his directorship until his death. Throughout his career he acted as consultant in several small mining operations and was on the board of some non-mining concerns.
Mr. Wilson was a Justice of the Peace and alderman of the County of Cumberland. He was elected a Member of the Institution in 1920.
