Ernest Terrell died at Plymouth on June 23rd, 1928, aged 46.
On leaving school he commenced work at the crushing and concentrating plant of the Drakewalls mine, Gunnislake, Cornwall, where he remained for about two years, removing thence in 1894 to engage in practical mining at the Devon Great Consols mine, near Tavistock. In 1897 he won a County mining scholarship at Camborne School of Mines, tenable for three years, and after completing his course he obtained the appointment of assistant to the manager of the Glitters United Mines, and the position of lecturer and demonstrator in chemistry and metallurgy, and instructor in mathematics and mechanical drawing at the County mining science classes at Gunnislake, both of which appointments he held until 1907. In that year, he took over the management of the Stormsdown and Owlacombe tin and arsenic mines, and of the Wheal Friendship mines near Tavistock. On reconstruction of the latter company, he continued as manager of the Wheal Jewell & Marytavy Mines, Ltd., until March, 1923, when he was appointed general manager, a position he retained until his death. He was also instrumental in floating the British Tungsten Mines, Ltd., in 1916, and Hemerdon Mines, Ltd., in 1917, of both of which companies he had the management.
Mr. Terrell was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1902, and transferred to Membership in 1913.
