John Calvert Stokoe died on 15 June 1966. He was 89 years of age.
Mr. Stokoe was educated at Armstrong College, University of Durham, and at Redruth School of Mines, Cornwall. From 1908 to 1912 he was employed by the Ehrlich group as a metallurgist, mine surveyor and assayer in Swaziland and South Africa.
In 1913 he moved to Rhodesia to take up the post of assayer, Bushtick Mines, Ltd., subsequently becoming chief surveyor and metallurgist. From 1921 to 1925 he was mining geologist to South African Territories, and in the following year joined London and Rhodesia Mining and Land Co., Ltd.
Mr Stokoe was elected to Associate membership of the institution in 1913 and transferred to full Membership in 1921. He was also a member of other professional societies and had served on various official boards.
