Raymond Claude Neale Robinson died at Truro on August 13th, 1939, at the age of 61.
He entered on a course of study at Hobart and Zeehan, Tasmania, in 1893, and from 1900 to 1912 held a number of appointments in Tasmania South Australia and Queensland. In 1912 he came to England, and during the next two years was engaged in reporting on various mines in Norway, Siberia and Spain.
In 1915 he Joined H.M. Forces, and in the following year he held the rank of captain in the 175 Tunnelling Company, Royal Engineers. He was awarded the Military Cross. In 1917 to 1918 he was in command of the 174 Tunnelling Company with the rank of major, and was subsequently attached to General Knox’s staff on the British Military Mission to Siberia, his last war service 1920 being as British representative on the Inter-allied Technical Board, Harbin.
Returning to England, he established himself as a consultant and visited and examined mines in Mexico, Central America and elsewhere. At his death he was associated with the Mount Wellington enterprise in Cornwall.
Major Robinson was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1910 and was transferred to Membership in 1925.
