John Rodger died on 5th February, 1963, at the age of 63.
Mr. Rodger was educated at Lytham College and Wigan Mining and Technical College, Lancashire, where he obtained the Mining Diploma in 1920. While studying, he had undertaken vacation work with Tharsis Sulphur and Copper Co., Ltd., Spain.
From 1920 to 1925 Mr. Rodger was employed by Wigan Coal and Iron Co., Ltd as assistant to the general manager of a group of collieries in the Westleigh district. He then left the United Kingdom and for the next two years worked as assistant mining engineer with Luchana Mining Co., Ltd., Spain. In 1927 he joined Indian Copper Corporation, Ltd., India, where he was employed as surveyor, assayer and underground assistant until 1930.
In 1935 Mr. Rodger was appointed underground manager and general manager of Watende Mines, Ltd., Kenya, remaining there until taking up the positioned mines manager with Anglo-Greek Magnesite Co., Ltd., Greece, in 1937.
During the second World War Mr. Rodger served with the Royal Engineers, and from 1947 to 1950 was on the Control Commission in Germany.
In 1950 he returned to Anglo-Greek Magnesite Co., Ltd., to resume the post of mines manager, remaining in Greece until 1958. He then returned to the United Kingdom in order to work as a consulting mining engineer.
Mr. Rodger was elected to Associate Membership in 1926 and was transferred to full Membership in 1956.
