William Manley Phillpotts died in Rhodesia in September, 1920, aged about 46 years.
He went through the Camborne School of Mines in 1893, and from 1894 to 1901 served in the several capacities of assistant engineer, assayer, chief engineer and mine superintendent of the Montana Mining Co., at Marysville, Montana. In 1902 and 1903 he was assistant manager for the Alaska Bodman Bay Co. at Rodman Bay, Alaska, U.S.A., and on the completion of that engagement he went to Australia, to the New Ravenswood Mining Co., Ltd., Ravenswood, Queensland.
In June, 1909, he went on a trip of investigation to the Cobalt District, Ont., Canada, and at the close of the year he sailed for South Africa, and joined the staff of the Resident Mining Engineer’s Department at Bulawayo, Rhodesia, and was still attached to the department at his death.
Mr. Phillpotts was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1905.
