Leonard Camroux Oliver died in Bangalore on March 31st, 1945, at the age of 68.
He began his mining career in 1898 prospecting for gold in Mysore and in Madras Presidency, and in 1899 was engaged by the Hyderabad (Deccan) Co. on mine accounts. He resumed prospecting work on the Dharwar gold fields from 1900 to 1902, and in March of the latter year entered the service of Messrs. John Taylor & Sons as assistant superintendent at the Dharwar Gold Mines, Ltd., and Sangli Mines, Ltd., two years later transferring to the Goldfields of Dharwar Co. and Hosur Gold Mines, Ltd. He was promoted to the position of superintendent of Hosur Gold Mines, Ltd., in 1908 and of Kabulgitti Gold Mines, Ltd., in
1910. In February, 1912, he was appointed superintendent of the North Anantapur gold mine, Madras Presidency, where he remained until his retirement in 1919 to his coffee estate in Mysore State, where he was residing at the time of his last illness.
Mr. Oliver was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1911 and was transferred to Membership in 1917.
