William Charles Mitchell-Withers died rather suddenly in Sheffield on January 3rd, 1929, at the age of 52.
In January, 1895, he became an articled pupil to Mr. G.J. Binns, manager of the Netherseal Colliery, near Burton-on-Trent, and on the conclusion of his three years’ indentures he entered the Camborne School of Mines for the usual course.
In January, 1901, he obtained an appointment as assayer and surveyor to the Societa Eritrea, a gold-mining company in the Italian Colony of Eritrea, on the Red Sea. In July, 1903, he went to South Africa, to join the staff of the Ferreira Deep Gold Mining Co. in Johannesburg. From March, 1906, he was chiefly engaged in prospecting and reporting on properties until approximately the outbreak of war, when he joined H.M. Forces. Since 1918, he had made his headquarters in Sheffield.
Mr. Mitchell-Withers was admitted to
Studentship of the Institution in 1903, and was transferred to Associateship in 1907.
