Virginius Henry Randolph Murray died after a long illness at Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, on August 8th, 1937, at the age of 65.
His professional career, the whole of which was in Australia, began in 1889, when he was appointed assistant in the Victorian Water Supply Department, and until 1892 he was engaged on field surveys in connexion with irrigation work. Then followed a year’s land surveying with the Victorian Lands Department, and in 1893 he entered the service of the Broken Hill Proprietary Co., Ltd., as a surveyor. In 1897 he was appointed chief surveyor to the London and Globe Corporation, Ltd., and two years later took a similar position with Golden Horseshoe Estates Co., Ltd. at Boulder, W. Australia. After filling this post for 20 years, he was appointed underground manager in 1919, and remained with the company until 1934, when he left Boulder for Kalgoorlie.
Mr. Murray was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1913, and was transferred to Membership in 1925.
