Philip Byfield Marriott died in Malaya on 18th January, 1951, at the age of 50.
He was educated at Rugby School from 1913 to 1917, when he left to join the Royal Field Artillery, serving in France in 1918. On demobilization in 1919 he was appointed to the staff of Messrs. Osborne and Chappel at Ipoh, F.M.S., and worked at Gopeng Consolidated until 1922, when he returned to England to enter the Camborne School of Mines for a course in surveying and geology.
In November, 1923, he rejoined the services of Messrs. Osborne and Chappel, with whom he spent the remainder of his life, becoming a partner in the firm in 1939. For three years from 1927 he was manager of Tekka-Taiping Ltd., and from 1930 to 1939 he managed Petaling Tin, Ltd.
Mr. Marriott was elected a Student of the Institution in 1923, and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1926.
