Peter Bertram Mack died on 30th May, 1961, at the age of 65.
Mr. Mack was a student at borne School of Metalliferous Mining from 1911 to 1914, and gained their Diploma. After a six-month postgraduate course there, he left in March, 1915, for Southern Rhodesia to take up a position as sampler, also acting surveyor and assayer, at Globe and Phoenix Gold Mining Co., Ltd., Gwelo.
He joined Wankie Colliery Co., Ltd., in September, 1916, and remained with the company throughout his career. He began as surveyor and assayer, and in 1921 was promoted chief surveyor and industrial chemist. He was also acting mining engineer and geologist, reporting on bauxite in Portuguese East Africa, coal in Northern and Southern Rhodesia, and magnesite, dolomite, fluorite, tin, tungsten and manganese in Southern Rhodesia.
Mr. Mack returned to England in 1952 and retired to Hastings, Sussex, in 1954.
He joined the Institution as a Student in 1915 and was elected to Associate Membership in 1922. He had also been an Associate of the Institution of Mining Engineers.
