John Eldred Mott died at Dolgelley, North Wales, on July 27th, 1933, at the age of 52.
An Australian by birth, he began his professional career in 1896 as assistant engineer on the Westralia and East Extension Mine, Coolgardie, and until the outbreak of war was actively engaged on a variety of gold and copper mines in Western Australia.
In 1914 he joined the Australian Imperial Forces, and was awarded the M.C. (with bar). He attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. In 1924 he was appointed manager of the Llechfraith and Prince of Wales gold mines at Dolgelley and four years later relinquished that position to accept the management of the Prince Edward gold mine in the same district.
Colonel Mott was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1932.
