Buichiro Matsuda, died on February 28th, 1911.
He studied at Tokio University under the distinguished German Professor, C. Netto, and obtained the degree of K.H. (Doctor of Engineering) of Japan. For seven years subsequently he worked under. Mr. John Stoddart, manager of the Takashima Collieries, and, thanks to the experience then gained, he practised for eighteen years as coal mining engineer for the Mitsu Bishi Company. From 1890 to 1909 he was manager of the Namazuta Colliery, Chikuzen, Japan, and thence to the date of his death was manager of the Fushun Colliery, near Mukden, Southern Manchuria.
Mr. Matsuda was elected a Member of the Institution in 1902.
