Major Anthony Charles Bovill Malcolm-Sim died in hospital on October 30th, 1946, at the age of 62.
He began his career in 1903 with Rand Mines, Ltd., Transvaal, first as a learner in the various departments of the mine at Jumpers Deep, Ltd., and after three years worked for a time in the geological department in Madagascar, and as the company’s agent on Bloemhof District diamond alluvial fields.
He was employed as assistant assayer and chemist with City and Suburban Gold Mining and Estate Co., Ltd., from June, 1909, to January, 1913, and subsequently held the position of consulting metallurgist assayer and chemist to various mines, including those of the Pilgrims Creek Gold Mining Co., Ltd., and Southern Van Ryn Reef Gold Mining Co., Ltd., until, in September, 1915, he joined up for war service.
He served in 184 and 176 Tunnelling Companies, R.E., before being transferred to First Amy H.Q. and becoming Assistant Controller of Mines, First Army, in 1918.
In August, 1923, he was appointed assistant general manager of West African Diamond Syndicate, Ltd., Gold Coast Colony, which position he held until 1929. He worked for a time from 1935 with the Prah Syndicate, Ltd., Gold Coast, and during the 1939-1945 war he rejoined the Army and commanded 171 Tunnelling Company, R.E. On retirement under the age limit in 1943 he joined the Directorate of Opencast Coal Production and worked for two years on coal prospecting in Great Britain.
Major Malcolm-Sim was elected to Associateship of the Institution in 1926.
