Arthur Victor Leggo died in Australia on September 21st, 1942, at the age of 67.
After taking a three-year course at the Ballai-at School of Mines and receiving private tuition, he joined the staff of the Edwards Pyrites and Ore Reduction Co. in 1890 as assayer. In 1897 he was appointed manager of the company’s works at Ballarat, and in 1901 became general manager of the Works and at brunch metallurgical works at Bendigo. In 1909 he founded a company (Messrs. A. Victor Leggo & Co. Pty. Ltd., Melbourne) and opened a new metallurgical works at Bendigo, and four years later established the company’s present works at Yarraville.
He was the inventor of the Leggo roasting furnace and did much to increase the supply of materials for munitions during the last War.
Mr. Leggo was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1904.
