Charles Napier Keith died on July 14th, 1939, at the age of 63.
He received his early training in mine surveying and assaying, as pupil and afterwards assistant in the firm of James Henderson & Son, of Truro. In 1898 he entered the service of John Taylor & Sons where he spent the whole of his subsequent career. Starting as assistant draughtsman in the firm’s London office, he was sent two years later to the Kolar Gold Field, where he was assistant in the survey department for four years.
From 1904 to 1923 he was chief surveyor and later assistant superintendent of the Mysore Gold Mining Co., Ltd., and in the latter year was appointed superintendent of the Balaghat Gold Mines, Ltd. His connexion with the Kolar Gold Field terminated only shortly before his death.
Mr. Keith was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1895; he was elected an Associate in 1902 and transferred to Membership in 1928.
