William Clifford Holden died at Cochabamba, Bolivia, on July 20th, 1933, at the age of 51.
He entered the Royal School of Mines in 1900 and after graduating he remained for a year engaged on research work. In June, 1904, he went to Madagascar as assistant in the examination and development of alluvial gold properties, of which he was subsequently in charge. In, 1907 he joined the engineering staff of the Nevada Consolidated Co., and in the following year went to South Africa, where for two years he was on Rand mines. In 1912 he went to South America, and until June, 1916, was engaged on mines in Peru.
He then returned to England and joined H.M. Forces, receiving a commission in the R.E., and engaging in home defence. In November, 1919, he returned to South America as mining engineer to Messrs. Balfour, Williamson & Co., in Bolivia, and remained there for the rest of his career.
Mr. Holden was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1906 and was transferred to Membership in 1923.
