James Horsburgh died in Sydney on November 21st, 1942, at the age of 68.
He was born in Queensland, and after ten years’ experience with the Queensland Smelting Co., Ltd., entered the University of Sydney, completing his course in mining and metallurgy in 1902. In the same year he took an appointment with the Chillagoe Mining and Railway Co., Ltd., leaving in 1905 to become general manager of Mt. Molloy Copper Co. In 1907, however, he returned to the Chillagoe Co. as general manager, and remained there until 1917, when he was appointed assistant general manager of Mount Morgan, Ltd. With the exception of the five years 1926 to 1931, when he acted as chairman of the North Australian Commission of the Commonwealth Government, he spent the rest of his life with Mount Morgan, to which company he was technical consultant for the past seven years.
Mr. Horsburgh was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1909 and was transferred to Membership in 1911.
