Percy Henry Glibbery died on 7th October, 1953, in Llandough Hospital, South Wales, at the age of 59.
He began work in 1909 as engineer-apprentice with Messrs. Bagshawe and Co., Ltd., of Dunstable, and during the following five years also studied engineering at Luton Modern School.
He took a post in 1914 with Messrs. Spencer & Co. of Melksham as junior draughtsman, but on the outbreak of war joined the Forces, and served with the Royal Engineers (Territorial Forces) in India and Mesopotamia. He was mentioned in despatches for his services on land surveys and design of railroad bridges during the construction of the Basra-Baghdad military railway.
On demobilization in January, 1919, he was appointed leading draughtsman with the Sturtevant Engineering Co., Ltd., in London, but in March, 1920, joined the Burma Corporation, Ltd., at Namtu, Upper Burma, where he worked for two years on the construction of a new lead concentrator.
From 1922 to 1926 he was engaged on Government irrigation works in India and Egypt on the staff of Messrs. Ransomes and Rapier, Ltd., and also worked on his own account for mining companies during that period. He was appointed chief draughtsman to Selection Trust, Ltd., in December, 1926, and after five years left to take the post of chief engineer and manager to the Standard Pulverized Fuel Co. in London.
In 1937 he was appointed Civilian Garrison Engineer, Royal Engineers, at Aldershot and was later promoted Civilian Deputy Commander, R.E. During the war years he served with the rank of major and was Deputy Commander at the Military Station, Broadstairs, and subsequently returned to his position of Civilian Deputy Commander, R.E., Aldershot, from 1945 to 1949. He was then posted to
Cardiff as Civilian Garrison Engineer, Deputy Commander, R.E., on an acting and temporary basis, the appointment of Civilian Garrison Engineer being confirmed in 1951, and Major Glibbery held that post until his death.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1931, and was also a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
