James Garland died at Concordia, Namaqualand, Cape Colony, on June 28th, 1926.
In 1884 he entered the service of the Namaqua Copper Co., and gradually worked his way up until in 1905 he was appointed chief mining agent and acting superintendent. In 1917 he became superintendent of the mines, which position he held until his death.
Mr. Garland was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1908 and was transferred to Membership in 1924.
