Fred Turrell Greene was killed in an automobile accident on December 25th, 1917.
He was 44 years of age and was educated at Toronto University and Michigan School of Mines, where he graduated in 1897. He then spent two years with the Boston and Montana Mining Co., holding various positions which ranged from surveyor’s helper to foreman.
After a year at Rossland, British Colombia, he obtained an appointment as chief assistant geologist to the Anaconda Copper Mining Co. at Butte, Montana, which he held for five years under Mr. H.V. Winchell; and he served a further two years under the same geologist with the Great Northern Railway Co. at St. Paul.
In 1908 he started private practice at Butte as a consulting engineer and geologist, and acted in an advisory capacity to several well-known mining companies in Montana and Idaho until the time of his death.
Mr. Greene was elected a Member of the Institution in 1913.
