Abraham Goldwater died in Jerusalem on June 16th, 1943, at the age of 56.
He received his technical training at the Royal School of Mines, from which he graduated with the A.R.S.M. in Metallurgy in 1903. He then left for Johannesburg and until 1906 was employed as sampler and assayer by Messrs. Lewis and Marks. Returning to England, he attended a surveying course at the Redruth School of Mines, and in 1907 was appointed assistant engineer with the Jalisco Mining Co. in Mexico, in which country he spent the next seven years. In this time he worked in various capacities with the Teziutlan Copper Co., the Oaxaca Iron and Coal Co., and the Santa Rosas, Carmen, Avino, and Ventanas Mines.
After returning to England he went to Nigeria, and was manager of Gold Coast Consolidated Lands, Ltd., from 1916 to 1919. In 1921 he was appointed engineer in charge of the Public Works Department of the Palestine Zionist Executive, and from 1922 until his death was general manager of the Palestine Corporation, Ltd., Jerusalem, a company with many interests in Palestine.
Mr. Goldwater, who was awarded the O.B.E. in 1935, was elected a Student of the Institution in 1904, and was transferred to Associateship in 1911.
