Oswald Fernie died in Chile in May, 1929, at the age of 38.
From 1910 to 1912 he was an articled pupil to the late Mr. G.T. Holloway, M. Inst. M.M., and on the expiration of his indentures remained for about a year as assistant in the laboratory. In 1913 he went to South America, to take up an appointment as chemist with the Cia, Huanchaca de Bolivia, Pulacayo. The year following he went to Peru as mill manager to the Buldibuyo Gold Mining Co., leaving them after a few months to accept the position of chief chemist of the Société des Mines et Usines de Cuivre de Chafiaral, in Chile. He remained in this post until his death.
Mr. Fernie was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1910 and was transferred to Associateship in 1916.
