Charles Edward Fysh was killed instantaneously by a shell in France on July 28th, 1918, whilst leading his men into action. He joined the Seaforth Highlanders as 2nd Lieutenant in 1915 and gained rapid promotion, having attained to the rank of Major at the time of his death, which occurred when he was only 24 years of age. For services of exceptional gallantry and brilliancy he was awarded during the former part of the year 1918 the Military Cross, a Bar to the Military Cross, and finally, the D.S.O.
He was a student in metallurgy at the Royal School of Mines; but had not been able to complete his course at the time of his joining the Army.
Mr. Fysh was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1914.
