Frederic Douglas Bailey Edmunds died on 5th August, 1961, at the age of 53.
Mr. Edmunds was born in South Africa. He trained as an official learner at Brakpan Mines, Ltd., Transvaal, between 1927 and 1931, and then worked for Crown Mines, Ltd., for about eighteen months on general mining. He was appointed manager of Edzawa Ridge Mining Co., in north Kavirondo, Kenya, in sole charge of their mining and milling operations and held this post for eight years. He then ran the Bukura Mining Co. phosphate mine from 1940 to 1947, when he was appointed manager of Borderland Syndicate, Ltd., Busia, Uganda. Mr. Edmunds returned to Kenya in 1949 to manage Kenya Soda Phosphate Co., Ltd., at Turbo. From this time until a few months before his death Mr. Edmunds supervised operations on the phosphate plant at Turbo and also the mining of rock phosphate at Magodes, Uganda. During these years he had also been engaged in mixed farming at Turbo.
Mr. Edmunds was elected to Associate Membership of the Institution in 1948.
