George Deer died at Port Talbot, South Wales, in the spring of 1916.

Unlike so many members of the metallurgical profession, he had not led a roving life, but spent his best years in South Wales following his vocation of copper smelting. At one time he was manager of the Cape Copper Works at Briton Ferry; and for it period of between twenty and thirty years held the strenuous and responsible position of manager of the Rio Tinto Copper Works at Cwm Avon, Port Talbot.

Mr. Deer was elected a Member of the Institution in 1896.
