Ernest Cantrill Daniels died at Barnes on November 8th, 1922, while on leave from Rhodesia, aged 37 years.
He entered the Camborne School of Mines in September, 1902, leaving in July, 1905, with the 1st class diploma. In the following year he joined the staff of the Globe and Phoenix Gold Mining Go., in Southern Rhodesia, as sampler and assayer, and with a brief interlude remained with that company until May, 1912. In the next two years he was on two occasions junior assistant to Mr. H.A. Piper, consulting engineer, and interim manager respectively of the Gaika and the Globe and Phoenix companies.
In March, 1915, he went to France on active service in the 170 Tunnelling Company of the R.E., rising from 2nd Lieutenant to Acting Major, and receiving the award of the Military Cross.
In May, 1918, he returned to Rhodesia as manager of the Gaika Gold Mining Go., at Que Que, which position he still held at the date of his death.
Mr. Daniels was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1909.
