Carl Raymond Davis, Junior, was killed in action in August, 1940.

He was the son of Mr. Carl Davis, M.Inst.M.M., who was President of the Institution in the Session 1935-36. He was educated at Cambridge University, where he obtained the degree of B.A., and on leaving the University he entered the mining profession. For a year from September, 1937, he was on the Gold Coast, first as assistant to the consulting engineer of the West African Gold Corporation, and subsequently as assistant to the general manager of the Amalgamated Banket Areas. Returning to England, he was appointed assistant mining engineer with the New Consolidated Gold Fields, Ltd.

He was a member of the Auxiliary Air Force, and was on active service from the day war was declared. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross as the result of splendid service in operational flying, in the course of which he personally destroyed six enemy aircraft and severely damaged several others.

Flight-Lieutenant Davis was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1938.
