Pearson John Urry Claudet died on June 22nd, 1917, aged 55 years.
He was a son of the late Frederick Claudet and brother of the late Arthur G. Claudet, a former President of the Institution and its Treasurer from its inauguration in 1892 until the time of his death in January, 1918.
Mr. Pearson Claudet spent seven years in the assay offices and laboratories of his father, where he obtained experience in assaying and general analytical work, which formed part of the routine of the wide and varied practice of the firm. After two years in the alkali trade, he obtained a post as assayer to some gold mines at Dolgelly, North Wales, which he held for eighteen months. He then went to Bolivia, and from 1894 to 1897 acted as assayer and reduction officer to the Frontino and Bolivia Gold Mining Co., Ltd.
On his return from South America he became associated with his father and brother in their assaying business in Coleman Street, E.C., and on the decease of Mr. Arthur Claudet, he became a director of the company which was then formed, a position which he held until the time of his death.
Mr. Claudet was elected a Member of the Institution in 1896.
