Georges Carrette died on 3rd July, 1965, at the age of 63.
Born in Paris, Monsieur Carrette received his technical training at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris, being awarded the Diploma d’Ingénieur civil des Mines in 1924. Between 1926 and 1931 he worked, successively, as supervisor and manager of the Société de Prospection Eléctrique and the Compagnie Générale de Géophysique, travelling widely in Europe, North Africa and North America.
In 1932 he was concerned in the formation of Zinc Oxide Co. of Canada, Ltd., in Montreal, being a director of the company, and then for some years undertook consulting work in Morocco and Tunisia. Following a variety of professional assignments, Monsieur Carrette joined Worms et Cie. and was principally concerned with the company’s mining interests in North Africa. He remained in that position until 1950 and then opened an office in Paris on his own account as a consulting engineer, at the same time being retained as a technical adviser to a number of organizations, as well as serving on the boards of other companies.
Monsieur Carrette was elected to Membership of the Institution in 1954. He was the author of a number of technical papers.
